Instructions for Hardness Testing Steel

General

This inspection is for the hardness testing (H.T.) within the parameters of the ROCKWELL "C" SCALE.

Instructions

1. Place STEEL calibration block 50.3 on hard stable surface.
2. Place H.T. #3162 on calibration block at 90 degrees to the block away from any indentations.
3. With a steadily increasing amount of pressure, push down on the H.T. until a defined "click" is felt/heard.
4. Step C. created an indentation in the calibration block. INSURE that this exact indentation can be identified.
5. Place illuminating optical reader over the exact indentation created in step C. and insure that it reads 50.3 + or -1.0.
6. Follow step C. on steel to be tested.
7. Read indentation as in Step E. and the number the reader indicates is the equivalent hardness on the "C" scale.
